Siting a Norman Castle

I first taught a lesson on where to site a castle back in 2001 in teaching practice. Sometimes, the classic lessons are the best.

My talented sister-in-law created an improved version of the map a few years ago. It’s a work of art!

This is a great activity because it’s fun, engaging but most importantly it requires students to think because they have to evaluate the best site for their castle. Students will need all their knowledge of Norman warfare and castle building to consider their response.

Where would you site your castle?
